Jennifer Pooley, Editor
Jennifer Pooley is an Editor at William Morrow/HarperCollins where she specializes
in developing new voices in literary and mainstream fiction and non-fiction
(memoir; history; biography, journalism, social and popular science). Above
all, on both the fiction and non-fiction side she is interested in emotionally
compelling storylines that allow the reader to experience the human condition
through a distinctly new prism. She also is especially interested in
narratives steeped in history—both factual and imagined—and often
finds herself drawn to stories with a knowing wink to the fantastical. She
also acquires more whimsical women’s commercial fiction and non-fiction,
including memoir that delivers an unforgettable arm chair experience such as
Marjorie Hart’s Summer At Tiffany (forthcoming in April 2007)
a title she acquired following the January 2006 San Diego State University
Writer’s Conference; and gift/humour titles with a pop culture slant
such as her titles This Little Piggy Went to Prada: Nursery Rhymes for
the Blahnik Brigade and The Official Guide to Christmas in the South:
Or, if You Can’t Fry It, SprayPaint It Gold. She publishes
such critically acclaimed authors as K.L. Cook (The Girl from Charnelle);
Willy Vlautin (The Motel Life); Catherine Hanrahan (Lost Girls
and Love Hotels); Christopher Bram (Exiles in America); Maud
Casey (Genealogy); John Barlow (Eating Mammals: Three Novellas and Intoxicated:
A Novel); Daniel James Brown (reprint: Under a Flaming Sky: The Great
Hinckley Firestorm of 1894); and Lisa Jewell (Vince and Joy),
amongst others; and has worked with such authors as A. Manette Ansay; Stephen
J. Dubner; Dennis Lehane; and Jennifer Haigh during her eight years with William
Morrow. Note: she does not acquire or scout for genre titles:
romance; mystery; fantasy; or crime, nor does she accept unsolicited submissions
previous to or following the conference. Unsolicited submissions will
not be opened nor returned.
