Attendee Info

Congratulations! You've made the decision to come to the conference, and registered. What's next?

In this section of the site, we've put together all the information you need to know to make your experience at SiWC the best. At the top of this page you'll find tabs to direct you to where you can sort out your room bookings, find out more about the conference venue and how to get there, and even learn something about the city of Surrey.

As for the conference itself, anyone will tell you that SiWC is a hive of activity from the moment it starts to the last round of applause at the final luncheon. We have events running from dawn until late — take in as many different experiences as you can!

You can see from our schedule that workshops and panels run throughout the day. Blue pencil and pitch appointments run at the same time, so we just ask that you leave and re-enter as courteously as possible. Since you don't register for workshops, if the one you are attending doesn't meet your needs, feel free to try another. There is plenty of seating, so go ahead and have a good time.

SiWC is loaded with events and information, so make sure you take the time for breaks. Go for a walk to get some fresh air, take a nap in your room, stay hydrated and take the time to stop and breathe now and then. With so many people roaming about the halls the temperature can vary greatly from room to room, so dressing in layers is always a good idea.

Remember to have a great time! If you are a serious writer, or have ever held the dream of writing, this is the place you should be. Mingle and network with other writers and your favourite authors. Need a good line to meet new people? Ask "What do you write?"

Stay in the hotel if you possibly can. This gives you the opportunity to rest well before the conference starts, and a place to go during the day if you need a break.

On a budget? Bring a friend and share a room. Not only can you split costs, but you can each go to different workshops and share the notes and handouts. You will have someone to share this wonderful experience with, and that's priceless. Follow our blog to meet others interested in ride- and room-sharing. Or join us as a volunteer!

If you can't find the answer to your question in these pages, have a look at our FAQ. Still unsure? Send a note to coordinator, and she will get back to you as soon as possible.
