The Griffin Award

Purpose

The Griffin Award recognizes contributions to Canadian society through the craft of writing.

Criteria

The specific criteria for this award are as follows:

  • A short work of literature, fiction or non-fiction, that furthers Canadian humanitarian (yet not political) goals; or,
  • Someone who contributed to same; or,
  • A person who brought writing to a disadvantaged group; or,
  • Writing that furthers the consciousness of women; or,
  • Writing that celebrates the multi-cultural nature of Canada.

How to Nominate

  • The person chosen to receive the award must be nominated by someone other than himself/herself.
  • Nominations should be submitted in writing and contain the following information: Your name, address, telephone number and a short introduction of your relationship to the nominee.
  • A 500 word submission (approx.) on how the nominee fits the criteria.
  • If applicable in terms of the criteria, a copy or sample of the nominee’s work. (Note: this cannot be returned.)

There is no entry fee.

Judging

Winners will be selected solely by the Surrey Writers' Conference Committee.

Presentation of Awards

The presentation ceremony will take place at the next Surrey International Writers’ Conference. The winner will be contacted in advance. The winner will receive an engraved plaque at the Conference and the press will be notified.
