Quillblog (the blog face of Canada' Literary magazine Quill & Quire) has a great piece on judging the big literary prizes today -- you can find the clip here -- Quillblog on Booker Judging
But, as we at SiWC (home of four AWESOME and Influential Literary Contest Prizes) know how tough the whole judging thing can be. A few words from a past Booker judge as highlighted in the above posting from Hilary Mantel, a Booker Prize judge in 1990:
I’m glad I was a Booker judge relatively early in my career. It stopped me thinking that literary prizes are about literary value. Even the most correct jury goes in for horse-trading and gamesmanship, and what emerges is a compromise.

No Results yet!
Nope...the judges are still pondering! We'll announce the winners on Friday, October 24th at the banquet. Until then...we wait.

the winners know, don't they?
I thought the winners would be informed on Oct 10. So, not everyone has to wait, do they?

Hi Laurie,
No -- the winners do not know yet, because there are no winners yet. The judges are still judging! Shortlisted authors have all been notified. As soon as the winners know, I'll post the info to the blog, but the public will not hear until Friday, October 24th.

Yes, but....
If one hasn't been informed that they are on the short-list they can assume they didn't make the cut, correct?
