For the first time ever, SiWC is being held on the last weekend before Hallowe'en.
To celebrate, we will be offering a selection of Very Special Night Owl events. Today I'm going to talk about our Saturday Evening Masque.
Here's the scoop.
First of all, costumes are OPTIONAL. You do NOT have to wear a costume, if that is not your thing. Masks, however...are not.
Saturday evening, beginning shortly after our Book Fair and Author Signing, will be the night of the Mysterious Masque. In order to attend any of the evening's festivities, you will be required to purchase a mask. We'll be selling plain, black masks -- and a few more colourful ones, too -- at the door (and throughout the course of the conference, prior to the evening) for $2 each. All money raised from the sale of the masks will go to the Surrey Public Library's Young Adult Writing Contest.
During the conference, any time you are feeling crafty (or just in need of a break), we'll have a table set up with all kinds of glitter and glitz to decorate your masks to suit your personality.
That night, after the dinner and Jack Whyte's most marvellous keynote speech, a creepy quintet will set the mood, the silent auction will heat up, the bar will open, and you can spend the evening mixing and mingling with other writers and presenters.
Just who is that masked man, anyway?
