Is it Wednesday already? I suppose that's what happens when you're a day behind from the beginning of the week!
Three writers came out of the hat today, and I'm delighted to bring you mystery, history, crime and romance in the form of three wonderful women this Welcome Wednesday. A warm wave (sorry, is the alliteration driving you crazy? I can't seem to help myself...) to Anne Perry, Susanna Kearsley, and Elizabeth Boyle.
New York Times Bestseller Anne Perry's publishing career began with The Cater Street Hangman. Published in 1979, this was the first book in the series to feature the Victorian policeman Thomas Pitt and his well-born wife Charlotte. This is arguably the longest sustained crime series by a living writer.
In 1990, Anne started a second series of detective novels with The Face of a Stranger. These are set about 35 years before and features the private detective William Monk and volatile nurse Hester Latterly.
None of her books has ever been out of print, and they have received critical acclaim and huge popular success: over 20 million books are in print world-wide. Her books have appeared on bestseller lists in a number of foreign countries, where she has also had excellent reviews. The Times selected her as one of the "100 Masters of Crime".
In 2010, she published a standalone novel, The Sheen on the Silk, set in the Byzantine Empire, and she is at work on more Pitt and Monk novels. Welcome, Anne!
Susanna Kearsley’s modern gothic novels blend adventure, history, romance and suspense. A former museum curator, she won the U.K.'s Catherine Cookson Fiction Prize for her novel Mariana, and her thriller Every Secret Thing was shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada's Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel. Her book The Winter Sea, a time-slip novel dealing with a little-known true event in Jacobite history, was a finalist for both the U.K.'s Romantic Novel of the Year Award and a RITA® award, and won this year's RT Bookreviews Reviewer's Choice Award for Historical Fiction. She lives in Ontario with her husband and two young children. Welcome Susanna!
Elizabeth Boyle is the NY Times bestselling author of eighteen novels and two novellas and various essays. Her favorites moments as an author include winning the Dell Diamond Debut, the Romance Writers of America RITA award and falling over backward into Puget Sound during a photo shoot. Welcome, Elizabeth! You'll be pleased to know the hotel is a little too far from the water to make falling in a likely possibility.
