External Job Posting: Volunteer position


Introduction Writer

Pre-conference work to be completed on or before September 15, 2013


A Conference Basic pass which includes all three days of workshops and morning keynotes.

Does NOT include any meals or evening/afternoon keynotes, or hotel stay. (Approximately a $430 value)

Job Summary:

  • To research all presenters and write an interesting and applicable introduction for each workshop at the Conference.  SiWC introductions do not duplicate what we have on our website but honour the presenters with their due accolades as well as inform attendees about that particular workshop.


  • Have excellent writing skills
  • Have excellent computer skills (Word)
  • The ability to research each presenter; access to a computer and internet is essential.
  • Respond promptly to SiWC board emails and requests

External Job Posting: Paid position


Conference Assistant

Temporary part-time (August 1, 2013 – November 30, 2013)

 You will be responsible for completing the duties below, as assigned.

Hours are flexible with the exception of:

  • Contest deadline week (September 6- 13th 2013) – full time
  • Week prior to Conference (October 14th -20th ,2013) – full time
  • Monday through Sunday of the Conference week (Oct 21st through Oct 27th, 2013) – full time plus.
  • Following the Conference week approximately 20 hours for thank you cards and follow up


  • a total of $2,500.00 (to be paid in monthly installments of $500.00, $500.00, $750.00, $750.00)
  • paid hotel for Wednesday- Saturday nights of the Conference week (approximately $600 value)
  • Full attendance at Conference (approximately $600 value)

Job Summary:

  • To assist in the preparation of the Surrey International Writers’ Conference
  • To carry out duties assigned within this job description as well as other duties assigned by the board. This includes, but is not limited to: pre-conference work such as arranging for delivery/tracking/ return of items, assisting with the writing contest, completing all photocopying, place cards/program for banquets, signage for Fraser room, coordination of door prizes, name tags, coordination of silent auction, thank you cards and coordination of the stuff-it party

  • Be familiar with all aspects of the Conference, either as a past attendee or past volunteer  
  • Be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Have excellent computer skills including Word, Excel and other software as required
  • Must have access to: (not provided) a computer and printer, cell phone, vehicle and valid driver’s license and use of home office space
