SiWC Director [and volunteer coordinator] Christine Dalzell has contributed the following post to pass on a word of thanks to all of our marvellous volunteers.
April 21 to 27 is National Volunteer Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible efforts of Volunteers across Canada. SiWC is almost entirely run by volunteers and we, the organizing Board along with our Conference Coordinator, Administrative Coordinator and Webmaster, want to send a shout out to the over 70 dedicated volunteers who make our conference possible.
Some of our volunteers have been with us since the early days of the conference and each year new, enthusiastic volunteers enter our roster. Volunteers are scheduled for as much time as they wish and, for some, that amounts to 12 hour days because they just cannot get enough of the creative energy that surrounds SiWC.
Much activity takes place behind the scenes at SiWC and our volunteers are kept busy welcoming attendees, monitoring workshops, introducing presenters, setting up workshops and banquets, making appointments, timing pitch sessions, answering questions and otherwise running all over the conference site getting various jobs done. Some volunteers also give time throughout the year during the planning stages.
Without a doubt, the Surrey International Writers’ Conference would not be possible without the dedication of our invaluable volunteer crew.
Thank you one and all and Happy National Volunteer Week!
