After three years in the job, I will be retiring as SiWC conference coordinator at the end of our event this year, and our Board is currently engaged in the process of looking for someone who would like to take on the position. This job has been a labour of love for me, and I will continue to maintain a strong association with the conference, but it's time for some new blood at the helm. I'm hoping you, our devoted blog readers, will help me spread the word so we can find the perfect person to take on the challenge. Your name was drawn from the hat as winner of THIS contest.
The point of the contest (for those who may have forgotten) was to garner a list of the names of presenters who have inspired your pens and won your hearts over the years at the Surrey International Writers' Conference.
The entries were drawn from names submitted to the comments section, and a most interesting selection we had. But I confess to a secret surge of delight when Jenny's name came out of the hat...anyone who can rhyme 'pseudonym' with 'nude in 'em'
...well, she's a star in my book.

Well, well, well.
A combination of book deadlines, out-of-town gigs and summer madness served to put the kaibosh on my blogging for the past couple of weeks.
Apologies all round!
I have a lovely Cadbury Flake and some books to give away...so we'll do the big draw tomorrow. And henceforth, the blogging will be coming fast and furious. We've got guest bloggers lined up. We've got contests. We've got all kinds of excitement as this year's conference moves ever closer.

Terry Brooks will be back with us this year, and yesterday on teh TOR site, I came across a very cool article by Shawn Speakman about Terry's kindness and brilliance as a mentor.
It was a great thing having a long-standing New York Times bestselling writer look at my manuscript. I am quite lucky to have had that chance. And it has already taught me a lot. The sad reality is I have a great deal more work to do on The Dark Thorn to make it the book it should be—the book Terry can see. Until then, back to work!

Busy couple of days we've had this week, but registration is now safely open and we are taking on attendees by the dozen every day. Welcome to you all!
A reminder that over the next few weeks we will be firming up our schedule. This year there will be no brochures printed. We made this call for a couple of reasons. In the past, in order to get the brochures printed on time, we had to have them done about now -- literally 5-6 months prior to the conference. This means that by the time the conference [with it's cast of more than 60 presenters and 75 workshops, panels and special events] rolls around, schedules and presenters have inevitably changed somewhat, the brochures are dated and require a correction sheet supplement. ...
Whew! It's not technically over yet, but it's been quite a day here behind the scenes at SiWC Central.
A huge thank you to all our tech staff, our wonderful WebWizard Dale, and to our brilliant and loyal attendees for your patience today as we shook and rattled the registration process onto the road.
The conference registration for SiWC 2009 is now officially underway, and after a bit of a glitchy start, we managed to register a lovely large group of attendees.
We're pretty excited about getting our registration ready so early, but this June launch means that we are still getting the site up to speed. Have a good look around the site when you get a chance -- you'll find presenter bios and pictures, planned workshops and panel schedules...
