SiWC 2009 is up and running!
I am delighted to announce that this year, we plan to open registration earlier than ever. Spread the word -- on-line registration will open at 12 noon PDT on Wednesday, June 10th, 2009. We have an exciting conference planned, packed with the usual array of brilliant and exciting presenters and more than 70 workshops, panels and special events.
If you've never been to one of our conferences, you are in for a treat. We've had our blog up and running for more than a year, and I'd like to suggest you peruse our archives to get a flavour for all the elements that make up this amazing event.
Here's a quick preview of our incredible line-up of presenters:

These experts from every field of writing, every genre have generously made themselves available to share their time and expertise with our attendees. Workshops, panels and special events are geared to every level of expertise... from beginners ready to share their stories with the world who come to SiWC to learn how to get their work out there, to experienced, published writers who come for the cameraderie and unparallelled professional development to be found in our Master classes and advanced stream workshops. There is something for every writer at the Surrey International Writers' Conference -- and we welcome you to join us and find out for yourself.
Each registrant is entitled to book one Pitch appointment (with an editor or agent), and one Blue Pencil (with a published writer). But why limit yourself to just one? More appointments are always available at the conference, and you can book those on-site, subject to availability. Before you register, have a look at our presenter bios (new ones are going up on the site every day).
And this year we are bringing back our popular pitch practice appointments. Author Beverley Boissery and agent Cricket Freeman will be available to give you a chance to to practice that pitch before you hurl it at one of our wonderful agents, editors or publishers. Just book an appointment on site at the Pitch Practice desk -- appointments will be available all day Friday and Saturday.
If you are interested in starting your SiWC a little early this year, check out our Master Classes. These are classes aimed at experienced writers, and are 3 hours of crafting magic from some of our favourite presenters.
Remember to register early to avoid disappointment -- all appointments are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. A reminder that we have a special rate for young writers (under 19) on Friday -- only $50, and this year it includes a bag lunch. Spread the word to the young writers you know. (It's a provincial Professional Development day -- a great way to spend a day off!)
A quick final note -- this will be my final year as conference coordinator. We'll be posting the position on our website soon -- if you know someone with lots of energy and enthusiasm who might be interested in taking on the job, spread the word! Details up soon on the website.
As always -- if you have a question you can't find an answer to on the website at www.siwc.ca you can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please put your topic in the subject line of the email -- and I will do my best to answer.
Looking forward to seeing you again...
