From conference coordinator Kathy:

Kathy ChungHello, SiWC friends!

BIG NEWS to tell you about today.

First of all, we have a REGISTRATION DATE! Mark your calendars, set a reminder on your email, program your phone, or go old school and tie a string around your finger. Registration for SiWC opens on JUNE 1, 2010.

Why should you register early? Here are just a couple of reasons:

  • First choice of appointments. Everyone who registers can choose a Blue Pencil Café appointment and an editor/agent appointment at the time of registration. Some of our agents’ appointments fill up FAST, so the sooner you register, the better chance you have of getting a spot with your dream agent.
  • Early bird prices. Our pricing for 2010 will be up shortly, in ample time for you to get ready for registration. We’re expecting them to be the same or very very close to last year’s, and, as always, we offer you a reduced rate for early registration.

Why should you register at all? Well, that list is a long one that includes over 70 workshops and panels covering all aspects of writing craft and business; amazing presenters; terrific banquets, keynote speakers, master classes, night owl events, book fair, silent auction, trade show, and of course the silly writing contest; and my personal favourite, the magic of SiWC. There’s something wonderfully special about spending the weekend in the friendly atmosphere of SiWC, surrounded by people who share your goals and struggles and who don’t look at you strangely when you talk about the voices in your head.

In other big news, Tuesday, May 18 marks the launch of our updated, upgraded website. Check out the new look at www.siwc.ca. You’ll find presenter information for this year, hotel details (including the link to our group registration page – group rates are available NOW for attendees, so why not book your room if you want to stay on-site; the hotel will certainly sell out by conference time) and much more. We’ll be adding new information constantly between now and registration day, including our workshop schedule and master classes and such, so check back often.

Writing contest entries are already arriving. With four categories with first prizes of $1000, it’s well worth entering. www.siwc.ca/contest/2010.

Remember, we have lots of great ways to keep in touch. Our blog is updated regularly at www.siwc.ca/blog, we’re on Twitter @siwctweets, and we have a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Surrey-BC/Surrey-International-Writers-Conference-SiWC/343986316665. You can start discussions there and post pictures, too. And, of course, I’ll keep you posted through this newsletter, too.

As always, if you have questions or comments, you can reach me by email at kathychung at siwc dot ca.
