Eileen Cook

Eileen Cook is a multi-published young adult and middle grade author with her novels appearing in six different languages. She spent most of her teen years wishing she were someone else or somewhere else, which is great training for a writer. Her latest release, Unraveling Isobel came out in Jan 2012.  Her books have been optioned for film and TV, and while nothing has yet gone into production, she's already planning her Oscar speech.

You can read more about Eileen, her books, and the things that strike her as funny atwww.eileencook.com. Eileen lives in Vancouver with her husband and two dogs and no longer wishes to be anyone or anywhere else.

SiWC Workshops

Friday 10:30am
Dialogue can be used to show character, reveal theme, set tone, and increase pacing. This workshop will focus on how to avoid common dialogue problems and create dialogue that is realistic and effective.  Examples will be provided and participants will be provided with writing prompts to assist them with their own manuscripts.
Saturday 3:30pm

Stories are driven by characters in pursuit of a goal, but why do they want it? What motivates them? What part does their past history play? Everyone is motivated, although what drives them might not be positive. Understanding your character's motivation allows you to make them more believable, increase conflict, both internal and external, and increase reader engagement.

Saturday 1:30pm

Don't want to limit yourself to just one genre or age group? Our panel has had success writing for both kids and adults. Join them for insight into how they approach each type of book, the differences in the writing, publishing, and marketing processes, and more.
