SiWC Workshops

Sunday 11:00am
Children's books are evolving faster than ever before. Book proposals now encompass everything from graphic appeal to curriculum ties to marketing opportunities. Meanwhile, the books themselves have to be better than the latest movie, more appealing than a YouTube download, and more informative than a wikipedia page. In this workshop we'll look at emerging ideas in picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, and information books, and experiment with writing in new formats. Then we'll explore how to make a book proposal stand out from the crowd.
Friday 1:30pm
If you want to leave the conference bursting with ideas for scenes, techniques to try, or even entirely new books to write, this is the place for you. We'll put pens to paper to test writing prompts and brainstorming techniques, and we'll work collaboratively on strategies for facing the dreaded blank page. We'll also explore ways to turn a brilliant burst of inspiration into a sustained creative work.
