Sean Cranbury is a writer, media maker, communications professional, and literary event organizer living and working in east Vancouver.

He is the creator and host of Books on the Radio, co-Creative Director of the Real Vancouver Writers’ Series, and curator of Storm Crow Reading Series.

Sean_VesuviosSean collaborates with many organizations in the arts and publishing communities including the Canada Council for the Arts, Sage Hill Writing Experience, The English-Language Publishers of Quebec, Simon Fraser University’s Master of Publishing Program, The Surrey International Writers Conference, Theytus Books, and 49th Shelf, to name a few.

Sean's first book, Own It: The 12 Week Social Media Plan for Authors and Publishers will be provided to all attendees of his workshops this year.

Saturday 10:30am

This session will be a frank and open discussion of social media options and strategies for writers in the current climate of online sharing. What options are available to writers? How has social media changed in the recent past and what opportunities are available now and in the future. What tactics can writers deploy to better their chances of discovery in the current landscape? How can a writer best use their most vaulable resource - time - to help their work find an audience and connect one on one with their fans?

Thursday 5:30pm

This in depth session will focus on writers - amateur, semi-amateur, professional and semi-pro - using the web to own their identities, brands, stories, and work in a way that maximizes their reach and authentic voice. We will discuss author platforms like WordPress and social media channels like Faceoobk, Twitter, YouTube and others as ways to connect with readers and build audience. We will also discuss case studies on authors who have successfully published traditionally or through online options like Amazon, Smashwords, Kobo, and others. This session is for writers who want to engage in the media that is theirs to control and leverage for the greater spread of their voice and identity via the web.

One of the most important ways to connect deeply and immediately with your audience (and potential audience) is through launches and public readings. But they can be intimidating! How can you master the proper presence and poise to successfully perform your work for an audience? The good news is that there are a few time tested trick to perform you work well for an audience. This workshop will include examples of techniques for overcoming fears or concerns for performing publicly. It will also cover using social media sites lie soundcloud and YouTube to host audio versions of your work that can be shared via social media channels. This session is intended for writers who want to us their voice to connect at a deeper level with their fans.
