In September 2003, Jenoyne Adams joined Levine/Greenberg Literary Agency where she headed their Los Angeles office until January 2008. She had major success developing their young adult and ethnic fiction divisions and contributed such award-winning titles as American Book Award winner Reyna Grande's Across a Hundred Mountains (Atria/Simon & Schuster) and Stegner Fellow Nora Pearce's Insufficiency of Maps (Atria) to the literary fiction category. January 14, 2008 she launched BLISS Literary Agency International, Inc. an agency which focuses on middle grade/YA fiction and nonfiction, literary/world fiction, women’s issues and creative nonfiction.
A member of the Association of Authors' Representatives (AAR), Adams's publishing career started in early 2001 when her nationally bestselling, critically-acclaimed novel Resurrecting Mingus was published by The Free Press, followed by her second book, Selah's Bed (The Free Press).
From preparing a manuscript or proposal for submission to closing the deal and vetting the publishing contract, Adams enjoys the entire publishing process. Because Adams has worked as both an agent and an author, she is especially able to understand the lives and needs of her clients and she utilizes her personal experience in her agenting approach.
Whether adult fiction, YA, or nonfiction, Jenoyne is attracted to works that grabs emotionally. In the realm of nonfiction, she is interested in narrative nonfiction, writing books and work that deals strongly with women's issues and parenting. In adult fiction, she is a fan of fluid, literary novels that make you want to read each word aloud.
What grabs her in a commercial novel is a great storyline with assessable themes and a soul—she believes commercial fiction should make you laugh, and entertain you, but it should also make you think. She loves ethnic/world fiction of all kinds—take her to China or to a Brazilian village, introduce her to the zaniest Jewish family or to a divorced Latina mother negotiating the dating scene for the first time in a decade.
Middle grade, YA fiction and nonfiction, young reader? Bring it on. She absolutely adores these categories. She is interested in developing and working on projects that run the gamut—fantasy, urban/edgy, serious, bling-blingy? SURE. She loves it all. And she hasn’t found it yet, but with a deep appreciation for anime and martial arts flicks, she is looking for the perfect graphic novel.
Don't be afraid to wow us with your brilliance, ingenuity or marketability. We are ready and waiting for you here at BLISS.
