In this workshop a reviewer who writes crime fiction book reviews for The Boston Globe and can only review a tiny fraction of the books publishers send her talks about what makes her stop reading. We'll analyze some examples and talk about 20 top reasons she skips to the next book in the pile. Find out: Does the cover matter? What about the writing? The storytelling? The characterization? Does point of view really matter? What about pacing? We'll also talk about hooks -- beginnings and endings -- and how they can play a vital role in carrying the reader forward.
