A query letter is a single page cover letter, introducing the book. It is meant to elicit an invitation to send sample chapters or even the whole manuscript to the agent. The goal is to get the agent to read the book.
In this workshop, we’ll go over the basics of crafting a query letter, as well as dive in on a more granular level to understand how to use your query letter in the most effective way possible. You’ll learn common pitfalls and strategies to help your letter stand out. We’ll review examples of some of the best and worst query letters, and attendees who are feeling especially bold are welcome to submit their letter to be possibly evaluated during the workshop.
Only 1-2 letters will likely be used during class, but if you’d like yours to potentially be one of them, watch for upload information on our virtual conference site the week of the conference.
