A working literary translator will give a general overview of literary translation–from how works are selected for translation to the translation process itself, from how rights are negotiated to how translated works are edited and published. You’ll learn about the tools and techniques that a working translator employs in their daily work as they close read, conduct research, deliberate over word choice, and navigate linguistic and cultural differences. This workshop will be useful for anyone who wants to apply translation and code-switching techniques to their own writing, who is interested in trying their hand at literary translation, or who wishes to work sensitively with translators.
