From conference coordinator Kathy
Hello!
As I write this, it's raining outside my office window on a blissfully cool day, and after a dry, hot summer, today's weather is making it abundantly clear that fall is just around the corner. And soon after that, of course, it'll be time for SiWC at Home 2021. With that in mind, it's time for some updates from SiWC Central.
Registration
SiWC at Home runs from October 22-24 this year, with master classes on October 20 and 21. Space is still available for our virtual SiWC at Home and for all our master classes. Like last year, your registration for the conference includes the main conference October 22-24 as well as access to WXR pre-con events on October 18 and 19. We're once again offering a sliding scale option at registration for the full conference package in hopes Covid-life finances won't keep anyone from attending. If you haven't registered yet, you can do so at www.siwc.ca/registration.
Up until conference time, subject to availability, we are also offering a master class package deal, which gives you all of this year's master classes at last year's prices. You can choose which to watch live and which to watch after the fact in the 30-days post-conference for which recordings will be available. Master classes are also available, as ever, for individual registration.
At the time of writing this, we already have registrants from five continents. It's thrilling for us to see so many people coming from so many different places in the world.
Storytellers Writing Contest
Our annual short story contest, judged by SiWC's dear friend Diana Gabaldon, closes to entries on September 17. All the details are here. If you've entered before, please check the guidelines as word limits have changed this year. First prize is $1000 and publication in Pulp Literature.
Scholarships
Our scholarship application deadline is September 15. This year, we have scholarships for young writers, an Indigenous writer, a Black writer, and a writer from any underrepresented group. If you qualify, please get your applications in soon. Details on our website under News and Community. If you know anyone who might qualify, please let them know to apply, too.
Already Registered?
If you're already registered for SiWC, you'll get your first attendee newsletter in the first week of September with information about what to expect as SiWC approaches, as well as how to get SiWC merch and more.
More soon!
